General Information

We are excited for our 37th Annual Event!  Every year, in memory of Charlie Post, the Charleston Running Club holds the Charlie Post Classic 15K & 5K to fund the Charlie Post Scholarship with $2500.

You’ll notice some small additions this year we know you will enjoy! This year all finishers will receive a medal and we’ll also have other refreshments besides water!

3.1 miles

The 5K course is a flat speedy course prime for setting state records!  You’ll start on where Middlet St. and Hennessy St / Station 15 intersect. Once you reach Station 9 you’ll loop back around on Osceolla Ave and come back around to take a left on Middle St where you proceed to head Central Ave and veer left. You’ll proceed to the end of Central Ave where you’ll turn right on Station 20 1/2 and then turn right again back on to Middle St.  Once you are back on Middle St you’ll race back to where you started and veer left onto Hennessy St. where you’ll see the finish line!


9.3 miles

The 15K course is a flat speed course also prime for setting state records on one of the few 15K road races in South Carolina. The 15K course follows the the 5K course exactly, however, once you reach Station 16 just before where you started, instead of heading to the 5K finish, you’ll turn left to continue on to the remaining 10K. You’ll continue on Station 16 until it ends on Atlantic Ave where you’ll turn left and continue to Station 17. At Station 17 you’ll turn left again and then shortly after that turn right on to I’on Ave. On I’on Ave you’ll do a slight veer crossing Station 18 where you’ll continue on until you reach Station 28 1/2 where you’ll turn right. You’ll turn right at the next block on Atlantic Ave where you’ll head back to Station 26 and turn left to head to Bayonne St. You’ll take Bayonne St back to Station 28 where you’ll veer right on to Marshall Blvd.  You’ll run to the end of Marshall Blvd at Breach Inlet and turn left on to Station 32 where you’ll turn left back on to I’on Blvd to begin your run back to the finish. When I’on Blvd ends into Station 17, you’ll veer right and then left on to Poe Ave.  You’ll take Poe ave back to Station 16 where you turn right to head back to Middle St.  You are almost done!  At Middle St, your turn left and the shortly there after veer left on to Hennessy St where you’ll dash to the finish line.

Event Parking

  • This event takes place in a residential neighborhood.  Please have consideration for local residents
    • Once parked, you will not be able to leave the area until roads open after the event finishes.
    • There are two open fields available for parking.
    • Street parking is available along Middle St and some of the side streets

Finsher Medal

All participants of both the 15K and 5K Run/Walk will receive this  2.75″ custom die cast medal when they cross the finish line.

You can pick up your race bib and shirt on Friday January 25th, 2020 at TBD from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM or on race day starting at 6:15 AM.

Top 3 in the following age groups(14 and under,15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80 and over. )

The Charleston Running Club hosts 4 road race events each year.  Each event will have an event exclusive trophy designed for the event that we’ll add the name of the team with the largest participation to the base of the trophy each year after the race.  This trophy will stay with the Charleston Running Club and be displayed each year at the corresponding event for that trophy.  
Teams will score points based on their participation rank for each race.
  • 1st – 100
  • 2nd – 75
  • 3rd – 50
  • 4th – 25
  • 5th – 10

At the end of the season, we’ll award the top team with a custom award based on total points earned throughout the year.  In the event there is a tie in points, the tie breaker will be the team with the most members totaled throughout all four races.

Will your team be remembered each year for having the largest team at one of the events… or will your team take home the Championship Team Trophy?

We’ll have warm coffee and hot cocoa to warm you up after the run!

Island Coastal Lager will be on site providing beer for participants and spectators after both races start.  You must bring a valid ID to recieve a wrist bracelet.  A wrist bracelet is required to receive beer.  All beer must remain in the fenced in area of the Fish Fry Shack.

We’ll have breakfast burritoes to satisfy your growling tummy!

5K Awards will be given out at 9:30 AM.

15K Awards will be given out at 10:30 AM.
